Doctor Who's Peter Capaldi may be heading back to Pompeii during season 8.

Now the Twelfth Doctor, Capldi previously appeared as the Roman Caecilius during season 4's "The Fires of Pompeii" (see video below), and the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Zone has alleged that he will return to the doomed city in "Ghosts of Pompeii."

"The Doctor and Clara travel to Pompeii to try and solve the mystery of his latest incarnation. The episode sees the return of the Pyrovile and fan favourite who appears in a cameo," stated the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Zone in reference to the season's 10 th episode.

However, these rumors need to be taken with a grain of salt considering no other site has managed to confirm them. The BBC series is only just finishing up filming for the season 8 premiere, and it will be quite some time before filming for the suspected episode will be able to substantiate the recent claims.

In addition, Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Zone also alleges to be able to explain Capaldi's previous appearance as Caecilius in light of the events of "The Name of the Doctor."

"When the doctor entered his own timeline he splintered across Time as well," said an unnamed source, according to the group's Facebook page. "Not as much as Clara. Maybe several times. One echo was Caecilius."
