The 42-year-old attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Sunday night in West Hollywood and jumped into the background of Anne Hathaway's red carpet moment for an epic photobomb.

At first Hathaway, who wore a custom Viktor & Rolf gown, was completely oblivious to Leto's antics. However, she was a good sport when she eventually realized he was behind her and gave him a hug.

Earlier in the evening, Hathaway presented the award to Leto for his performance as a transgender HIV positive patient named Rayon in the 1980s era. He beat out Bradley Cooper, Barkhad Abdi, Jonah Hill and Michael Fassbender.

"In 1971. Bossier City, Louisiana. There was a teenage girl who was pregnant with her second child. She was a high school dropout and a single mom. But somehow she managed to make a better life for herself and her children. She encouraged her kids to be creative, to work hard and to do something special," he said during his acceptance speech. "That girl is my mother and she's here tonight. And I just want to say, I love you, Mom. Thank you for teaching me to dream."

Leto, who rose to fame with his role in the '90s sitcom My So-Called Life, went on to acknowledge the millions who lost their lives to AIDS and those who are discriminated against.

"And to those of you out there who have ever felt injustice because of who you are or who you love, tonight, I stand here in front of the world with you and for you," he said.
