The 40-year-old was also asked about the anticipated movie during his Oscars red carpet interview with MTV and he explained that the book's author was on set to ensure that the main elements remained.

"E.L. [James] was there every day," he said. "She was very hands-on. To have the author there definitely makes it pretty faithful."

The popular trilogy of the same name focuses on a young college student named Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), who begins an erotic relationship with Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan).

The film arrives in theaters on Feb. 13, 2015 and it's currently unknown whether or not there will be a sequel.

"We just want to get this one wrapped and get it cut. We'll see the cut, see how it goes, and once it's released, we'll start discussing what happens next."
