So far, fans have been led to believe that Schwarzenegger will be reprising his role as the mean machine who is out to terminate the lives of John Connor and his mother Sarah.

According to sources, the screenwriting duo of Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier are going to be switching things up, and while there will be a deadly cyborg in the picture, it will be a completely new one, and Johnson is being eyed for the role.

Emilia Clarke Struggling to Play Sarah Connor?

"Incredibly, Arnold Schwarzenegger may not play the role of a machine in the next film, but a potentially heroic human figure in or close to the Connor family. One theory is that Schwarzenegger's remarkable ability to protect the Connor family in the 1940s or 1950s with antiquated weaponry by today's standards ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination," the source reveals.

Johnson will also star in Fast and Furious 7 in which he plays the Hobbs. The actor also recently wrapped filming for Hercules, in which he plays the titular character.

The actor had tweeted a picture of himself as Hobbs, though viewers only got to see the hulking figure's back as he looks into an underground tunnel. He captioned the shot, "I didn't bring the cavalry.. I AM the cavalry" - #HobbsTheBeast #FastAndFurious7 Call action..."
