After only playing two games overseas, Lamar Odom has quit the Spanish team and is headed back to the United States.

Odom, 34, recently signed a two-month contract with Laboral Kutxa Baskonia and doctors in New York have revealed that he is unfit to play for two months due to a serious back injury.

"The tests carried out in New York by Lamar Odom's trusted medical team, with the knowledge of the club, have shown that the player is suffering from lumbar radiculitis, which could keep him out of action for up to two months," a source told Us Weekly.

Odom who is currently going through a divorce with ex-wife Khloe Kardashian thanked his new Spanish fans and said he still "represents" Baskonia.

"I am going to try and get back on the court and give you guys a show," he told the club website. "Lamar Odom as an athlete, he is a little embarrassed," Odom said. "But, at the same time, I am proud to be able to say that I am hurt and that I have a team that understands that I am injured and they are still supportive. That means a lot."

The team said it would "leave the door open" to resigning Odom in the near future when he recovers.

In total, Odom played 22 minutes in two games. Though he would've preferred to finish out his contract, he is thankful for the opportunity.

"I'm very grateful for the understanding," Odom added. "Not only the people of the Baskonia basketball organization, but the people - who've shown an appreciation for me and not just a basketball player. It goes so far from beyond the basketball court. I would like to thank you for the continued support."
