Ray Rice married his fiance Janay Palmer on Friday, a day after the Baltimore Ravens running back was indicted by a grand jury on third-degree assault for striking his high school sweetheart.

Back on Feb.15, Rice was arrested and charged with simple assault-domestic following a physical altercation with Palmer at the Revel Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ. At the time, she was also charged with simple assault.

According to sources,  the ceremony had been planned for a couple of weeks.

Ravens wide receive Torrey Smith said Rice and Palmer were in  "good place" after Friday's ceremony.

"Everyone knows that we're tight. I'm tight with Ray, I'm tight with Janay. He is like a brother to me and she's like a sister to me and my wife as well," Smith said at his charity basketball game. "I went by yesterday after everything happened and checked up on them and they're happy ... they're growing. They're trying to better themselves from it."

ESPN noted that the couple's marriage could make it impossible for Palmer to testify against Rice in court.

"If the wife claims a spousal privilege, it is likely that she would not be forced to testify against him," ESPN legal analyst Lester Munson said. "The prosecution would face the prospect of proving the assault without any testimony from the victim. It is possible, but it would be extremely difficult. Unless a prosecutor has a burning desire to become famous in a case involving Rice, the prosecutor may be likely to invest his time in other, more productive activities."
