With just two weeks to go until season 4 of Awkward premieres, Nikki DeLoach is promising fans that they may see her character in a new light.

New Girl Set For A 'Cringe-Worthy' Session with Val?

In a new video interview on the MTV Shows Blog, DeLoach, who plays Jenna's mom Lacey Hamilton, revealed that becoming a mother off-screen has helped to strengthen and deepen the relationship she portrays with her on-screen daughter.

"Becoming a mom changes everything," she says in the interview. "...It sort of does change your work, especially my relationship with Jenna and playing a mom on the show. It sort of deepens everything...for me, it just feels like it intensifies the relationship I have with Jenna."

Matty and Jenna Friends With Benefits?

DeLoach gave birth to a son, William, back in October.

On the show, her character has been far from a stereotypically great mother. The show's first season saw Jenna trying to figure out who wrote her a "care-frontation" letter telling her she was virtually worthless and needed to get a life. The season finale featured her learning that her mother was the one who wrote the letter. In season two, the mother-daughter relationship began to grow a bit stronger as they faced the possibility that Jenna's father would leave because of what Lacey had done.

However, season three proved to be another tense point in the relationship between mother and daughter, as Jenna began getting involved with intellectual bad boy Collin. When Jenna began using drugs and staying out past curfew, Lacey eventually put her foot down and old Jenna not to come back home.

Season three closed with Jenna beginning to make amends with the people she had hurt during her downward spiral, including her mother, and the two could potentially have a fresh start for the fourth season.

Awkward season 4 premieres Tuesday, April 15 at 10 p.m. on MTV.
