As Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes continue fighting rumors of a breakup, the 40-year-old actress has opened up about her fashion decisions.

In an April 1 interview with Flare Magazine, the actress opened up about how she doesn't always feel right wearing body-conscious clothing.

"It's not that I'm against body-conscious clothes: I have worn them on the red carpet or out, but when I'm photographed in them, I always regret it," she said. "For me, it's always been the easy way out. When I wear something a little more revealing, I think, 'Oh gosh, I should have been more creative'...[And] I don't like when it's just me and I'm not working. I don't like feeling like I'm on display."

The fashionista recently launched a new spring collection in conjunction with New York & Company, which features dresses and separates which appear to follow the actress' tastes, keeping things less revealing, while still promoting a fun and flirty look.

At a pop-up event at the Beverly Center Mall in L.A., where she launched the collection last month, Mendes also spoke to E! News about Gosling, her beau of two-and-a-half years, who directed her newest film, How to Catch a Monster.

"He really created the most beautiful, collaborative, creative atmosphere on set," Mendes said at the time. "I know I'm biased.

"He's the best," she added. "He's the best."

Despite gushing about Gosling at the event, the couple has been constantly plagued with rumors that they were splitting up, most recently because of Gosling's rumored reconciliation with his ex-girlfriend and The Notebook co-star, Rachel McAdams.

"Rachel has been very low-key about it all," a source said. "She's played it very smart and used the whole 'just friends' angle to get close to Ryan again, but she 100 percent wants him back. He's not the cheating type, but he hasn't been honest with Eva about how much contact he has with Rachel."
