'Law & Order: SVU' Abandoned By Its Executives?

During his appearance on Beast's Obsession, Lt. Declan Murphy took over for Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) as the acting commander of the Special Victims Unit in New York. As told by The Hollywood Reporter April 9, this episode has since promoted actor Donal Logue "to recurring status for the rest of SVU's 15th season."

Moreover, season 15 of the hit NBC series is taking a hiatus for a couple of weeks, but is scheduled to return on April 30 with episode 21, Post-Mortem Blues. An official synopsis for the episode reveals that when the Internal Affairs Bureau investigation for Benson's acts of perjury during her William Lewis case are determined to be inconclusive, the SVU is left to deal with the results of Lewis' suicide.

Likewise, the nightmarish situation is exacerbated for Benson when a prolonged trial and a scarce amount of proof threaten her career. In an interview with TV Guide Tuesday, executive producer Warren Leight said, "Olivia cannot trust [Amanda] at all, and now this guy [is] in charge of the unit and he's the one person in the world who trusts Amanda ... [Also], Nick came up to him and sucker-punched him on the street. [It's] not ideal that Murphy is now his boss."
