If Marvel Studios is building up to an Avengers/Spider-Man/X-Men combo film, The Avengers: Age of Ultron will probably not serve as a prelude.

While some fans have been hoping that the three franchises could coalesce for a Marvel Civil War film, according to the International Business Times, there are many obstacles standing in the way of that dream. One of these seemingly insurmountable hurdles is The Amazing Spider-Man 2 producer and former Marvel Studios CEO, Avi Arad.

"I think I'm probably a little bit of the militant here," Arad told IGN. "I think it will take a moment in which we've run out of ideas. There's so much to tell about Spider-Man. There's so much to tell about the Sinister Six. The relationship between Spider-Man and Venom will bring a whole other world in."

Meanwhile, the current Spider-Man and X-Men films exist outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the web slinger under the control of Sony and the mutants aligned with Fox, these heroes have yet to be worked into the any of Marvel Studio's Phase One or Two films and brining them in could mean disrupting their recent histories.

In addition, if you consider the number of heroes, villains, and SHIELD agents Joss Whedon currently has running around his Age of Ultron set, dragging Peter Parker into the mix would be the very definition of over kill.

Catch The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in theaters on May 2, and check out The Avengers: Age of Ultron one year later on May 1, 2015.
