Mad Men is in its final season so it only makes sense for fans to wonder if Stan Rizzo and Peggy will ever become more than overly friendly co-workers.

Jay R. Ferguson Talks 'Mad Men' Spinoff

It's understandable if fans got their hopes up after their flirty see on last season's episode called The Crash. But Jay R. Ferguson, who plays Rizzo, revealed fans have read a little too much into the exchange.

"Especially knowing [Peggy and Stan's] history up until that episode, and to have what happened in that episode, one would certainly be reasoned to it going down that road. But nothing ever came of it. I think we're left as an audience to assume that they're one of these exceptions to the rule."

Dawn Remains 'The New Joan'?

But Ferguson did confess that there is an attraction between the two, who could be known as the most platonic friends on the show. But it's possible that's exactly what each of them needed at the time.

"Their friendship is more important, which we all know is a rarity. I appreciated that relationship, especially on the show where it's the exact opposite with all the other characters and the opposite sex. It's one or the other: They're either romantically involved on some level or they're not friends at all. I really appreciate the friendship Stan and Peggy are allowed to have."

While they might have a few flirtatious moments when they are tempted to make their friendship more, Ferguson confirmed that they always go back to their friendly status. One thing they do have in common is that they are career driven, which Ferguson said could be the one thing stopping them from taking their friendship to the next level.
