There are a ton of rumors surrounding season 2 of True Detective but the strongest ones so far suggest that Brad Pitt will be playing Rust Cohle and the story will be set in Southern California.

Emma Stone and Kristen Wiig to Compete With Kate Mara and Ellen Page for Lead Parts?

The first episode was set in Louisiana but the show's creator Nic Pizzolato told Buzzfeed that the show would be set in Southern California in an interview with Buzzfeed.  But what is more interesting is that the creator told The Wrap that the story might not be a murder mystery, although it will follow a similar plot of detective after an elusive criminal.

The most recent cast rumors suggest that two women will be joining Pitt in the in the second chapter of the HBO detective series. Enstars reported that Kate Mara and Ellen Page have also been added in the stars being considered for roles and now it seems like Emma Stone has gone and upped the competition by stating that she would be very keen on nabbing a part in the HBO mini-series second cycle. In an interview with Vogue, Stone was also clear about who she'd like for a partner, Kristen Wiig is her pick.

'True Detective' Creator Says 'Casting Is Its Own Issue?'  

"That would be amazing. I would do True Detective with Kristen Wiig in a heartbeat," she told the publication when asked if she would be interested in working on it.

The first season of the show which was a critical success starred Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey in the lead roles as a pair of detectives who return to an unsolved case about a ritualistic serial killer after around a decade.

The series was created by Nic Pizzolatto and the first season was directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga.
