King, who plays Lemon Breeland on the popular The CW series, told ABC News that she and her husband Kyle Newman spent four years trying to get pregnant.

King gave birth to James in October 2013 and said that since becoming a mother, "everything takes on a new meaning."

When she was able to get pregnant, she added that her main concern was to make sure she had a healthy child.

"There's definitely an identity crisis you go through, but it took a long time to get pregnant, for me, the baby was such a blessing that the most important thing for me was that I was active... I was never obsessive about dieting or exercise. I didn't care how much I gained. I just wanted to make sure he was healthy."

Now that she is a superstar actress and a mom, King admitted that she is still working out the kinks when it comes to balancing it all. One celebrity mom who helps her is James' godmother, Honey actress Jessica Alba.

King said, "She's just a shining example of someone who's not just an incredible mother, balancing work and motherhood, but also what she does with her company Honest. I really fell like I'd be lost if I didn't have her in those moments to call like simple things 'How do I travel?' 'How do I deal with the hotel rooms?' 'How do I deal with him onset? how do you breastfeed at the same time as shooting?"

She also credited moms like Mad Men star January Jones and Drew Barrymore.
