Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge has been portrayed as a gold-digger in an offensive promotional video made by Chinese tourism executives according to Huffington Post.

The video received criticism online for its portrayal of Middleton and has since been taken down by YouTube and set to “private”.

The video is an advertisement made by Chengdu city officials to boost tourism and promote a range of 'panda cabs' in China.

Two other members of the royal family are portrayed by lookalikes as well- her husband Prince William and his grandmother the Queen of England

Three actors portrayed the three members of the royal family standing outside a palace trying to hail a taxi to the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Middleton is played by actress Colette Mularkey who complains in the commercial, "I just don't understand why we cannot take the royal limo. I didn't marry into royalty to schlep around in a taxi."

Queen Elizabeth lookalike Amanda Bellamy is trying to hail a cab by shouting “taxi” before telling the royal couple they could save money by hailing a cab instead.

Actor Simon Watkinson who plays Prince Williams suggests that appearances must be kept up for the “commoners”: “But darling, granny is right. The commoners want to see us tightening our belts and all that”.

“Rubbish, people want to see that they can be like us if they just work hard,” replies Mularkey.

The fake Queen Elizabeth responds, “Like you did?”

“Now, now granny, we all know that it was I who fell for Kate,” replies Watkinson.

“That’s right, I didn’t even fancy him at first. Don’t you remember? You had to practically beg me for my phone number,” added Mularkey.

The commercial is making fun of the fact that Middleton did not have a full-time job while she and William were dating, which she attracted criticism for.

Middleton worked at British retail chain Jigsaw for less than a year before leaving to work at her family's mailorder business, Party Pieces three days a week, the Dailymail reported.

The commercial was created and released online by the Chengdu Association for Cultural Exchange with Foreign Countries. A spokesperson from the Association told The Examiner that the video was intended as "harmless fun."

The “panda cabs” are British black taxis with pictures of panda bears painted on them. The association hopes the panda cabs will help boost tourism in Chengdu, an area which attracts almost 100,000 visitors each year to its world-renowned breeding for and research base for giant pandas.
