As filming for Terminator: Genesis is currently underway, the nature of the film is becoming clearer. Most recently it was revealed that the film will start a brand new trilogy and should be treated as a "stand-alone."

In a new press release made by Skydance Productions, the film is being tagged as a stand-alone. The producers behind the film revealed that the trilogy would be a new start of sorts while paying homage to the iconic franchise. But this also seems to corroborate various allusions to the fact that the film will essentially work off of the James Cameron films, The Terminator and Terminator: Judgment Day.

In an interview with Empire magazine dated May 21, J.K. Simmons, who will be playing a new character in Terminator: Genesis, talked about the first table read of the script and also affirmed that the film will be a a "really intelligent" reimagining of the iconic sci-fi series.

The new film is being directed by Alan Taylor and Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to reprise his role as the iconic mean machine. Jai Courtney will be playing Kyle Reese, Jason Clarke will be portraying the part of John Connor, and Emilia Clarke will play Sarah Connor. Sandrine Holt (House of Cards) will be playing Detective Cheung, who will arrest Kyle and Sarah when they arrive in 2017.

Terminator 5 is scheduled to release in July 2015.
