Executive producer Gareth Neame recently dished on Downton Abbey, giving some more insight on the kind of character that fans are about to see in Lady Mary.

Season 5 Will Take On An Entirely Different Style?

On Monday, Gold Derby posted a live video with Neame who pointed out all of Mary's flaws, which make her such an iconic character.

"She's not a conventionally good, straightforward character," Neame said. "She is selfish, she is convinced in her own journey and she's convinced about what she's doing, and she is snobbish at times, and she is unlikeable and she is very, very complex."

Sandra Bullock To Join The Series?

"These are not attributes you want to give to a character that you want to be a vanilla, a straightforward person and yet it's that very complexity that makes Mary so interesting," he continued.

Despite having negative attributes, Neame mentioned why Mary is someone that fans like to watch.

"Mary is a character you most want on your side on the show, and that's why audiences love her," the producer said.

There was a recent story from The Telegraph, which stated that series creator Julian Fellowes may want to change the show's broadcasting schedule to avoid the possibility of leaked storylines.

"I want to have simultaneous transmission in America and in Britain," Fellowes told Mandrake. "The difficulty that we have is that people are discussing the series as it happens online before America's seen it and on the Internet we're all in the same company. It's madness."

Downton Abbey Season 5 is expected to premiere in January 2015 on PBS.
