Fans of perhaps one of the nerdiest shows on television can rejoice, as King of the Nerds, the reality competition that sees contestants square off to win the crown of Biggest Nerd, has been renewed for a third season.

TBS made the decision to renew the series for an eight-episode run despite the second season not having as impressive of numbers in viewership from its first. According to The Hollywood Reporter, when the season wrapped in March, it had averaged 1.5 million total viewers and more than 1 million in the key 18-49 demographic, down from the season 1 numbers of 2.1 and 1.3 million.

However, despite the decline in viewership, the show still brings the network a large share of the key younger demographic, which resulted in the show being renewed for the third time.

"King of the Nerds demonstrates the power of nerd culture by drawing not only a fervent fan base but also the youngest audience of any current TBS original," Michael Wright, president and head of programming for TBS, TNT and TCM. "We look forward to building on that success as more viewers discover this terrific competition series."

The season, which will premiere in early 2015, will see the return of co-hosts Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong, as well as a new group of nerds moving into the "Nerdvana" house and competing for a $100,000 prize.

Season 1 saw a winner in 22-year-old pro gamer Celeste Anderson from Orilla, Ontario. Second and third place went to Genevieve Pearson, a fantasy writer from Studio City, Calif, and Danielle Mackey, a video-game blogger from Rome, N.Y.

Season two was won by Kayla LaFrance, a rocket scientist from Greenacres, Wash.
