The Hollywood Reporter and Entertainment Weekly both confirmed that Steenburgen had indeed been cast for Season 3 of Orange is the New Black, which is in production this week.

It is not known what character Steenburgen will be playing in the new season, though it is probable that she will play an inmate.

In other Orange is the New Black Season 3 news, recurring actress Dascha Polanco has been promoted to series regular status. Polanco plays the pregnant inmate Daya, whose interactions with her secret baby's father (and prison guard) John Bennett (Matt McGorry) have been the source of much drama over the first two seasons.

Additionally, Laura Prepon, who plays Alex Vause on the show, has announced that she will be back for every episode of Season 3. While she was a series regular in the prison show's first season, she was bumped down to special guest star status in Season 2 due to scheduling conflicts. She only appeared in four episodes of the second season.

Orange is the New Black is currently streaming its first and second seasons on Netflix. It is not known when Season 3 will begin streaming.
