An elaborate hoax on fans has temporarily eclipsed endless gossip over whether or not Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes has split, as the actor became the target of someone claiming he had temporarily become a dad to a motherless child.

Eva Mendes Dating Zac Efron?

A faux Facebook page went up for the actor on Father's Day June 15, which showed a photo of the actor holding a young baby. The accompanying caption resulted in the post receiving nearly one million likes.

"This father's day, I've decided to tell the story of how I became a father. This little guy was only 9 months old when I became his dad. His mom and I were good friends before she passed away from cancer. I promised her, I'd always look after him. So, I had decided to step up and become his dad. He brought me so much joy. He was my everything.  1 year later after the adoption, his biological father wanted him. Of course, I put up a fight, but he won," the post read.

Ryan Gosling Pursuing Christina Hendricks?

"That 1 year of being his father taught me how to love unconditionally. We have to stop and be thankful for our children and children should stop and be thankful for their parents. What I truly learned most of all is, every child needs love," it continued.

The fake post managed to take some of the spotlight off the actor's rumored troubled relationship with girlfriend of three years Eva Mendes. Rumors have reignited that the two have split after she was a no-show for the Gosling's directorial debut, Lost River, at the Cannes Film Festival last month.

Rumors the couple had previously split due to differing views on parenthood have previously plagued the pair. It was reported in February that Gosling had ended things after he got tired of the actress loving the glamorous party lifestyle.

The couple has also expressed different views in the past on things like having children.

Mendes has previously said that she wasn't thinking about becoming a mom, while Gosling has expressed his desire to be a father in the past.

"I'd like to be making babies but I'm not, so I'm making movies," he said back in 2011. "When someone comes along, I don't think I'll be able to do both and I'm fine with that."

"I'll make movies until I make babies," he added.
