It has been a long, sad goodbye for the cast and crew of  AMC's Mad Men. The end of the series has been called "bittersweet" and it seems this is especially for Kiernan Shipka, who has spent the last seven seasons playing Sally, the daughter of Don Draper (Jon Hamm) and his ex-wife Betty (January Jones).

Actor John Slattery Talks Mad Men Series Finale?

"It's like the very definition of bittersweet," explained Shipka on the red carpet at the 2014 MMVAs, "Because it's been such an amazing run and I've had such a fun time, but to have it end, it's emotional, it's so emotional."

The star, who was too young to watch the program when it first began, added that she has since been permitted to watch the program on which she has performed for over half her life.

More Fantasy Sequences To Come For Mad Men's Final Season?

While the 14-year-old Shipka has been in a number of films during her short career, the young star is known for her portrayal of Sally Draper on the ad-agency drama. The Chicago native joined the cast during Mad Men's first season and started filming the show when she just barely five years old.

"It's like a chapter closing," Shipka explained, "It's big."

Shipka's most recent storyline as Sally included falling for an older boy, who in one striking scene donned the same jersey worn by the infamous real-life O.J. Simpson, who was accused of murdering his wife. Is the jersey a clue? An omen?

Mad Men will resume its seventh and final season on AMC in January 2014.
