Angie Martinez, who worked at Hot 97 for 25 years, announced on Wednesday her unexpected decision to leave from the New York City radio station.

"Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways," she tweeted. "Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future."

She went on to thank the popular radio station, adding that Wednesday's afternoon show is her final one.

The 43-year-old also uploaded a photo on Instagram with the words, "Life has to move forward. Everything has its time and everything ends."

Many took to Twitter to express their sadness over Martinez's news, including her colleague Ebro Darden, whose words also hinted that she might have received a bigger opportunity.

"Angie,I love you and gave my life to protect you. This is a great opportunity to extend your brand!! Get that $," he wrote.

Could it be a job with rival radio station Power 105.1? Darden also replied, "that is the game My G! Real..." after a Twitter user asked, "What if Power 105 offers Angie a bigger bag tho?"

Power 105.1 even retweeted Martinez's message on Twitter and added a smiley face.
