Girl Meets World is the spin-off series to the ABC 1990s sitcom Boy Meets World. On the original show, Cory Matthews (Ben Savage), Cory's future wife Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel), and Cory's best friend Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong) dealt with the issues of growing up and becoming adults during the 1990s. A lot of those same struggles still exist in Girl Meets World, but Savage does acknowledge that a lot has changed since the original program.

Boy Meets World Original Characters Set To Return For Disney Channel Spin-Off

"We do, that's definitely something that's been interesting about Girl Meets World is that it's a much more complicated world than it was for Boy Meets World," said Savage in an interview with SheKnows (featured below), "There's the internet, there's Instagram, there's Facebook, there's cyberbullying... issues that young kids have to deal with today that they didn't really have to deal with in the '90s."

While the world has indeed changed throughout the years, Savage did assure audiences that the foundation will remain true to the ABC series.

"I think the same themes and the same morals and lessons that we dealt with on Boy Meets World we're tackling [on Girl Meets World]," he explained, "but it's a much more complicated framework than it was on the original series.

With old and debuting characters blending to create a new narrative on a new network, fan's of the original series have developed pretty high expectations. "I think it's [the show] gonna be something that people are gonna really enjoy..." said Savage, "And something that people are excited about."

Girl Meets World premieres on the Disney Channel June 27, 2014.
