The highly anticipated Disney Channel series Girl Meets World premiered Friday night, and it looks like the show might just be here to stay.

Girl Meets World Season 1 Spoilers

While premiere ratings are never a sure indicator, the spinoff to the ABC 1990s hit Boy Meets World hit the ground running. According to the Los Angeles Times, the series premiere pulled in 5.2 million viewers on Friday night.

The premiere picked up ten years after where Boy Meets World left off. Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) are all grown up with two children of their own. Cory is now a history teacher, and one of the first scenes in the premiere is his daughter, Riley, entering his class as one of her father's students.

Girl Meets World Actors Talk Staying 'Grounded' As Child Stars

Actress Rowan Blanchard, who plays the coveted role of Cory and Topanga's daughter on the show, talked about the start of the show with Clevver TV (featured below) on Friday, admitting one pretty mind-blowing fact. "I wasn't even born when the series [Boy Meets World] had ended..." admitted Blanchard, who giggled at how the statement sounded.

While this may not come as a surprise, it did leave it to Blanchard to catch up on the show years after the series finale. "I have seen all the episodes," said Blanchard, adding, "what's cool is that the life lessons, they still apply."

With 5.2 million viewers for the Girl Meets World series premiere, it looks like those lessons not only apply, but are still resonating with both old and new audiences.

With only one week left of shooting for the show's first season, the story is pretty much set in stone. Nonetheless, fans will continue to tune in as they follow the Matthews family into a new generation.
