Wimbledon ace Novak Djokovic is opening up about his wedding to his high school sweetheart, Jelena Ristic, who is also expecting the couple's first child. The tennis star told Hello! Magazine that he couldn't focus on anything but his wife on his wedding day.
The new couple tied the knot at the idyllic Adriatic resort of Sveti Stefan in Montenegro just last week. In addition to their civil wedding ceremony, they also celebrated a private church wedding as well.
"Seeing her for the first time in her wedding dress, smiling and walking towards me - she looked like an angel," Djokovic said. "I was trying to be present in that moment and memorize it. I was focused on her, and her smile and our baby. It really was a perfect moment."
Ristic also opened up to the magazine in their joint interview, revealing that she cried tears of joy while walking down the isle.
"I was very nervous and everything seemed a blur. I was seeing him through tears and immediately started crying when I saw him," Ristic said. "I was just so happy and probably being pregnant makes it quite difficult to control the emotions. I am so blessed to have him in my life. I couldn't ask for a better partner than him. The wedding was everything we hoped it would be. Our family and closest friends united in a beautiful setting in celebration of our love. It was truly emotional and unforgettable for us."
Djokovic added, "I am marrying the woman I love and there is no better feeling that that. To win Wimbledon and to now be preparing for fatherhood - I couldn't ask for more."
Djokovic and Ristic first met in high school and have been together for over eight years. The couple is expecting their first child this October.
