Parenthood was renewed for a sixth and final season in May and showrunner Jason Katims is excited to end the NBC show properly.

"For a show I'm so personally invested in ... I think of it as a gift to know that we get to tell this last part of the story," Katims said at the Television Critics Association's fall previews, TVGuide.com reported. "It's a great feeling to have these last 13 episodes."

Katims was also happy to be able to bring back the whole cast to finish the Braverman's story. But, that doesn't mean all the characters will make it to the series finale. Katims hinted that tragedy may strike the TV family.

"One of the things I wanted to do with the season was to find one larger story that influences everybody on the show," Katims said. "It's a huge challenge for this family and a kind we haven't seen before."

He added, "I feel like we're going to be telling a story this year that we haven't been able to."

Some of the cast members previously showed their excitement and gratitude for the show's return via social media.

"Thank you Bob Greenblatt and @NBCUniversal for giving @nbcparenthood the chance to say a proper goodbye," Lauren Graham, who plays Sarah Braverman, tweeted in May.

"Celebrating Season 6 like only a Braverman can. Thanks for the support, gang! We feel the love," Sam Jaeger, who plays Joel Graham, wrote on Instagram along with a video of himself dancing.

Parenthood's last season will premiere on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 10/9c on NBC.
