Change is coming on The CW's The Originals this fall. With baby Hope shipped off to stay with her aunt Rebekah (Claire Holt) for safe keeping, Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) find themselves ready to defend themselves against their enemies.

The dynamic for season two will be significantly different as well, causing fans to wonder whether or not Elijah and Hayley will finally get together. The two obviously had feelings for each other during the program's first season, but with Hayley spending the whole of that time pregnant with his brother's child, it made a relationship with Elijah somewhat complicated.

While Hayley is still the mother of Klaus' child this season, no longer being pregnant affords her more freedom to be her own person, and perhaps affords Elijah more freedom as well.

Nonetheless, Gillies assured audiences back in March (featured below) that while staying away from Hayley has partially been due to his sense of family loyalty, that is certainly not the primary thing stopping him. "It's kind of a cocktail of a couple of things," explained the actor.

So what's next for the Mikaelson brothers and for Hayley and Elijah? Season 2 will be taking places a few months after the birth of Hope, with Klaus and Elijah biding their time before making another move in the battle for New Orleans.

"I think Klaus is actually wiser than Elijah in a lot of senses knowing that the requisite overture for power was a war," explained Gillies, "And I think Elijah is finally starting to accept it".

The Originals returns to The CW for a second season on a new night Monday, October 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
