Chmerkovskiy, who has guest judged on the series before, has reportedly expressed interest in signing on as a full-time judge in the future. He would be replacing Len Goodman, who hinted that he might be leaving his post after Season 18.

"Maks really, really wants to be a judge," a DWTS insider told Life & Style this week. "He's just waiting to see what Len decides before he makes his announcement."

As the publication noted, this aligns with Chmerkovskiy's recent comments to them:

"Len and I will get together and think about [whether I will return]," he told Life & Style. "When the season's over, I'm depleted. I have nothing left."

Chmerkovskiy won this spring's edition of Dancing With the Stars, winning his first Mirrorball Trophy after 13 seasons of competing. He won with Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis, with the pair noted for their sizzling chemistry and their alternating perfect and almost-perfect scores from the judges.

Meanwhile, Goodman has been one of the three judges who have been with Dancing With the Stars since the beginning. Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli have judged with Goodman since Season 1, with varying guest judges filling in at times.

Dancing With the Stars Season 19 is set to air its premiere on Monday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
