Sherlock may not have a set release date for Season 4 quite yet, but the CEO of PBS is confident that it will be worth the wait.

Sherlock Special & 3-Episode Fourth Season Set To Film In 2015

PBS president and CEO Paula Kerger spoke at the Television Critics Association press tour Tuesday, discussing the highly anticipated fourth season of Sherlock. While she did not reveal anything new, she did indicate that they were very happy with the series.

"It's an amazing series. We're so proud to have it on public broadcasting, as you might imagine," Kerger said. "If you've seen the past seasons, you know that it's shot beautifully and with talent that has now become very popular, so they're navigating around making sure they can get a window to [film] Sherlock."

The series is becoming increasingly difficult to find time for filming, as both of its stars are rising in success. Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the titular Sherlock, and Martin Freeman, who plays his partner John Watson, have found success elsewhere on television as well as movies.

Both actors starred in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Freeman starred in the recently-ended first season of Fargo. Cumberbatch has been appearing in a number of movies over the past few years, including Star Trek Into Darkness, 12 Years a Slave, August: Osage County and The Fifth Estate.

Kerger indicated to the press at the TCA press tour that it will be a waiting game as far as figuring out a release date for the fourth season.

"We'll be watching for it and putting it in a great slot in the schedule," she promised. "Of course it's more complicated if you can't plan further out of where you would schedule a program like that. But we're happy -- whenever it comes, we'll put it in a wonderful place. I know the next season is going to be terrific."

The first three seasons of Sherlock are currently out on DVD/Blu-Ray and can be streamed on Netflix.
