Agents of SHIELD's Maria Hill no longer works for SHIELD, but that doesn't mean the former agent will leave her old colleagues high and dry.

Fitz Is 'Alive' On 'Agents Of SHIELD', But In What Condition?

Cobie Smulder's character took refuge with Iron Man's Stark Industries following Captain America: The Winter Soldier's HYDRA debacle, but Hill proved last season that her loyalties still lie with Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the agency he stands for (see video below). Lucky for SHIELD fans, that means Smulders is set to appear in at least one season 2 episode.

"We have plans to bring her in and see her," said series co-creator Jed Whedon, according to E!.

Ming-Na Wen & Brett Dalton Back On 'Agents Of SHIELD' Set, What Questions Will Be Answered This Year?

It is unknown when Hill will resurface, but her strong connection to Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and the Avengers may open up a role for Smulders near the finale. If SHIELD chooses to create a strong tie-in with May's Avengers: Age of Ultron, that is.

Plus, Coulson can use all the friends he can get. Rebuilding SHIELD with limited resources and a target on his back probably won't be as easy as the newly promoted director would like.

"Last we saw them, they were being hunted," Whedon reminded IGN. "They were no one's friends."
