As pre-production for season 6 of The Good Wife is underway, tid bits about what fans can expect from the next chapter of the CBS legal drama have been trickling through. The latest development reveals that Clarke Hayden, played by Nathan Lane, will not be returning to the show.

New Character To Play Alicia's Campaign Manager For State's Attorney In Season 3 Of The Good Wife

While promoting his upcoming Live from Lincoln Center performance of The Nance on July 21, Hayden spoke about his how his involvement with The Good Wife might end as he didn't have the time.

"I'm not going to be able to do it this season," Lane said. "Maybe I could squeeze one [episode] in at some point, but I'm going to be in rehearsal and then in performances of a Terrence McNally play, so I don't know. ... I've had such a great time there. We'll see, if time permits."

The actor did talk about the developments that were afoot and how his character would have been all for Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranksi) making the big move to Florrick/Agos, adding that they cut his favorite part in the the movie.

"They cut my favorite thing of the episode, which is at the end when [Diane] said, 'I'm gonna come here and I'm gonna bring $38 million dollars' [they cut when] Clarke says, 'Well that's a surprise.'" Lane said.

The finale for season 2, titled A Weird Year, aired on May 18.
