Could Marvel be naming their next big star at this week's San Diego Comic-Con? It seems like things could be getting a little "strange" for one actor.

Variety decided to break down possible stories coming from Comic-Con and labeled the naming of the star of the upcoming Doctor Strange by Marvel as one of them.

According to Variety, "Doctor Strange is searching for its lead character and the Brit's name (Benedict Cumberbatch) has most certainly been in the mix. We wouldn't put it past Feige to drop that news."

Cumberbatch is currently at Comic-Con promoting both Penguins of Madagascar and The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, but could he show up on the Marvel stage to be unveiled as Strange? He was on a wish-list that surfaced from Marvel a few weeks back as one of their top picks to play the part along with fellow Brit Tom Hardy and recent Oscar winner Jared Leto.

As of now, Cumberbatch hasn't hit immense fame in the states through his work on Sherlock and The Hobbit, but playing Doctor Strange could be the role that catapults him to A-list status.

As for Feige, he teased IGN about the possibility of Doctor Strange joining forces with The Avengers in a future film, possibly Avengers 3.

"It does make sense [to have standalone franchises], but I don't think it makes sense for this character, who has clearly woven in and out of that stuff [The Avengers] in the comics," Feige said.

"We have a template. There's a template for everything we do, which are the comics. Strange goes back and forth. Guardians less so, actually, until recently. But if there's a character like that who clearly interweaves over the course of many stories, I find no reason to go, 'We're not going to do that in the movies. We're going to keep him in his own movies.' So there's always the potential for it."

He ends the interview with a note about casting saying that he hopes to announce it relatively soon.

Doctor Strange is directed by Scott Derrickson and is scheduled to be released in 2016.
