Castle star Nathan Fillion thinks that the new season of the ABC series will be "fun" in the wake of the horrific car wreck in the Season 6 finale.

Rick & Beckett Facing Problems Together When Castle Returns

Many fans were upset with the most recent finale of Castle, which saw Castle (Fillion) getting into a fiery car crash on the day he was supposed to marry Beckett (Stana Katic). Fillion sat down with TVLine at Comic-Con this week to discuss the status of Castle and Beckett's relationship and what it means for the audience.

"We certainly have a point of 'okay, what now?' We've covered some ground as far as the two characters coming together, pulling apart," he explained. "We need a new reason to come back and face a new season and so far, so good."

He also said that he thinks "it's gonna be fun" moving forward with a new show mythology. Fans of the Castle-Beckett relationship may not have to wait to much longer for a wedding, based on Fillion's implications.

"We made people wait a long time for these two people to finally get together. Now they're together, how much longer can we make people wait for a wedding I think becomes my question," he said. "You don't want people to become bored in the waiting."

Castle is experiencing change behind-the-scenes as executive producer David Amann steps in as the new showrunner, replacing Andrew W. Marlowe. However, Marlowe will still be a producer on the series.

Castle Season 7 premieres Monday, Sept. 29 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
