SyFy has made itself the network of the cheesy, ridiculous made-for-TV monster movies, and the foremost of those was the original Sharknado.

SyFy Announces Sharknado Sequel

Sharknado, which delivered what it promises in that there is a tornado with sharks in it, was such a social media hit, that they, naturally, greenlit a second movie. Sharknado 2: The Second One debuts on SyFy on Wednesday night, and anticipation is high among those who enjoyed the first one. On Tuesday, Variety reported on some of the details about this schlocky sequel.

The story of this film moves from Los Angeles to New York, where Ian Ziering's Fin and Tara Reid's April are visiting to promote a book. Then, naturally, another tornado rains cheap looking CGI sharks down on Earth. People will be eaten, and sharks will be killed with a variety of weapons.

Sharknado Sequel Gets Title, Location

Joining in on the fun are Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath as Fin's brother-in-law, and Kari Wuhrer as Fin's sister. There will also be many cameos. The Today Show's Matt Lauer and Al Roker will be playing themselves. A couple of folks from Independence Day, a slightly more competently made disaster movie, make appearances as well. Neither of them is Will Smith. One of them may or may not be Judd Hirsch.

They have already announced a Sharknado 3, although by then the thrill may be gone for folks who just are into it for making jokes. A filmmaker can only do such much with sharks, tornados, and chainsaws.
