Stefan Salvatore won’t be much of a help finding his brother Damon when The Vampire Diaries returns this fall.

Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan on the hit CW show, dropped the bomb during an interview with TVFanatic.com at Comic-Con in San Diego.

“He takes off, he leaves town and he decides that he doesn’t want to have any part,” Wesley said. “We think that he’s searching for Damon and Bonnie. We think that he’s being proactive but in reality he’s gone. He’s doing his thing and he’s completely disinterested, he’s apathetic, he’s given up.”

On the other hand, Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) will be distraught over her loss. “She’s devastated. She lost her boyfriend and her best friend and I mean how could you be anything but? She’s not happy at all,” Dobrev told the website.

In the meantime, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) – who are stuck on “the other side” together – may start to get along.

“You have to realize that there’s a very, very, very fine line between love and hate and these two have been through so much together,” Somerhalder said. “I think ultimately they realize they are stuck there together and some weird way they are connected."

Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries premieres on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 8/7c on The CW.
