The official poster for the final season of FX's Sons of Anarchy has been released, teasing that the show's main character might be headed for a deadly fate.

Sons of Anarchy Jax Free of Being 'Tortured' By Desire to be a 'Good Guy'

The poster, released Friday by Sons of Anarchy's Twitter account, features a shirtless Jax (Charlie Hunnam) with his back turned to the camera. Superimposed on Jax's back is a giant skull. He is wielding a gun behind his back as gray skies surround him.

It is an ominous visual heading into the final season of the motorcycle drama, one that suggests that Jax may succumb to the reaper, or perhaps that he is the reaper. The tweet also reveals that the upcoming season will be the "final ride."

Lea Michele Set To Guest Star As 'Truck Stop Waitress' in Sons of Anarchy

Sons of Anarchy creator and showrunner Kurt Sutter previously revealed to Zap2It at Comic-Con that Jax will be taking charge and seeking revenge in the final season.

"Jax - for a good portion of the series - has been reacting to the chaos that's around him that was created by other people and trying to put things back together," Sutter explained. "And this season, he comes out and he's really the person who incites that chaos so it's a lot more fun to write for that character this season."

One of the first promotional photos of the season features Jax in prison seated across guest star Marilyn Manson's character Ron Tully. It seems that when Jax inevitably gets out of jail, he will be armed and ready to avenge the death of Tara (Maggie Sutter). Little does he know, however, that the culprit is his own mother, Gemma (Katey Sagal).

The final season of Sons of Anarchy is set to begin Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
