The next season of CBS' long-running reality show Survivor is set to have another super-sized premiere this September.

Survivor 29 Features 2 Castaways Dropping Out Before Filming Begins

Survivor: San Juan del Sur, the 29th season in the reality stalwart, will premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. on CBS, per a new press release by the network. It will be a 90-minute premiere much like previous seasons, though it is a step-down from the most recent season, Survivor: Cagayan, which aired a two-hour premiere.

As the press release notes, Survivor: San Juan del Sur features all new castaways competing, each with a loved one playing with/against them. The season is essentially a combination of the last two seasons, as there are 18 new players like Cagayan and they are playing with loved ones, like Survivor: Blood vs. Water.

However, as previously confirmed by host Jeff Probst, San Juan del Sur will not feature Redemption Island, in which eliminated contestants battle it out for a chance to return to the game. Despite this, there is another twist enacted that involves a Redemption Island type of area.

The series is going back to Nicaragua for the first time since Season 22, a.k.a. Survivor: Redemption Island. Survivor has found a home in the Philippines for the past four seasons.

Wednesday, Sept. 24 will be a full reality lineup for CBS as the finale of this summer's Big Brother 16 is set to air directly after the premiere of Survivor. It will also have a 90-minute finale.
