The Super Bowl halftime show is one of the most anticipated segments of the year and the next one could bring some more major star power.

Five Reasons Rihanna & Eminen's Monster Tour is Epic

The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that Rihanna, Coldplay and Katy Perry may perform at the Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 1, 2015 in Arizona. However, they may have to pay up.

The NFL reportedly asked "at least some of the acts if they would be willing to contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league, or if they would make some other type of financial contribution, in exchange for the halftime gig."

While artists aren't paid to play at the Super Bowl, all their expenses are covered. Also, performers often benefit from their appearance because of the show's massive viewership. For example, when Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers hit the stage for last year's show, 115.3 million viewers tuned it. The previous year, Beyonce's performance pulled in about 104 million viewers.

The WSJ explained that such an audience is "more than double the size of the audience for the Academy Awards this year, more than triple the audience for this year's Grammy Awards and more than 11 times the size of MTV's most recent Video Music Awards."
