It looks like another time-traveling character could be joining the X-Men and it could further lead to some staple characters showing up once again.

'X-Men: Apocalypse': Young Jean Grey & Cyclops May Join Mutants Against Supervillain

In a post on MoviePilot, the site speculated on a few rumors that could happen in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, one of them included the character, Cable, showing up to help the X-Men fight Apocalypse.

In the comics, Cable is the son of Scott Summers, or Cyclops, and Madelyne Pryor, who was a clone of Jean Grey. Mr. Sinister had hoped to use the boy as a weapon against Apocalypse but was unable to do so. Apocalypse infected the infant with a techno-organic virus, an incurable affliction. Cable was taken to the future and raised. He returned to the present to fight Stryfe and to stop the ascension of Apocalypse in the future.

'X-Men Apocalypse' Could Feature A Return Of 'X2' Character

With the power to time travel, Cable could pull of a similar role to Wolverine in Days of Future Past and come back to the past to help with the fight against Apocalypse. The character seems to have that same Wolverine-like grit to him and it would also allow for a possible return of Jean Grey and Cyclops with Famke Janssen and James Marsden returning as well.

The character could also allow for another bridge between the past and future because it would make more sense to have him come from the future to the past and could have a meeting with his younger versions of Jean Grey and Cyclops, but also include the original versions to bring back the actors.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to open in theaters on May 27, 2016.
