Mistresses aired its season finale on Monday night with a number of questions on what's going to happen if a third season takes place.

'Mistresses' Was Supposed To Have A 'Darker Storyline?'

On Monday, TV Line posted an interview with K.J. Steinberg who mentioned that there is an intention for the series to continue, but if it doesn't, then there is a silver lining.

"We would never have written this to be an ending to the series," Steinberg said. "We architected it for a Season 3. And we have hope that we will get one so we can continue to tell these stories and play out these dramas."

"If we have the misfortune of not getting [renewed], we still feel that we've told some great stories this season and ended the series on some great, great questions," the producer continued.

If the series is lucky enough to continue, one question that comes up is what Karen's doctor told her. Even though she has been tested to be negative for HIV, there's a possibility that she might be pregnant. Steinberg did not confirm this, but she didn't deny it either.

"Maybe," she said on that possibility. "I cannot tell you that."

Whatever happens to her, there's a good chance that her life might be less of a mess and she might be thinking more clearly about her decisions.

"Whatever news her doctor had for her on the end of that phone call, though, is going to make that a tough road to hoe," Steinberg said. "But I think that at the end of it, she will see the light."
