It looks as though Jennifer Aniston is still trying to ditch her "girl next door" vibe so she can be seen as a more serious actress instead. The Hollywood star recently opened up about her decade-long transformation from romantic comedies to more dramatic films and her recent "dream role" on the big screen.

Is Chelsea Handler Going To Be Jennifer Aniston's Maid of Honor At Her Wedding?

Aniston, who stars in the upcoming movie Cake, says that while she appreciates the opportunity to play a different character than what she's normally used to, she also says it was a physically and emotionally tough role to take on. Also starring Anna Kendrick and Sam Worthington, Aniston plays a character who is in massive chronic pain and addicted to painkillers and alcohol. The film made its first premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this past Monday.

The actress opened up about the character she plays to the Boston Herald on Tuesday, "She basically has to decide whether she wants to live or die. The woman's journey is so heartbreaking but so uplifting, because she's gone through a trauma but maintains her wit, which is very endearing."

Jennifer Aniston Feeling Pressure From Her Family To Get Pregnant?

Aniston added that she knew she wanted to be in the film the moment she finished reading the script, despite the fact that it was physically taxing on her body. The actress said that she had to go on multiple trips to the chiropractor and massages to help maintain "her sanity" while filming.

She noted, "I knew I was going to do it because it was a challenge but an opportunity to express empathy for the character and all those undergoing similar experiences."

Directed by Daniel Barnz and producer Ben Barnz, Cake, does not have a U.S. release date yet as the film is still looking for a distributor.
