Fans are eagerly awaiting news from The CW regarding The Originals crossover event with The Vampire Diaries, on which the series is based. According to some sources, however, the highly anticipated episode may have already been shot.

This 'Vampire Diaries' Star Could Join 'The Originals'

According to E! on Tuesday, the event has already been shot, though the details won't be revealed just yet. It has also yet to be revealed whether this episode is bringing the cast of The Vampire Diaries to The Originals or vice versa.

Later that day Wetpaint presented some theories about the episode, particularly when it will take place. Production for The Originals started a few months ago and so they cannot be more than eight episodes in, suggesting that the crossover will occur sometime in the first quarter of the season.

'The Originals' Gets A Menacing New Trailer

Since it will still be pretty early in The Vampire Diaries sixth season, Wetpaint predicts that the crossover will have something to do with Elena (Nina Dobrev) and friends, who will have themselves in quite a bit of trouble in upcoming episodes, requiring help from the Mikealson brothers. This would most likely mean the episode will be part of The Vampire Diaries season, with perhaps another crossover occurring in New Orleans later on for The Originals.

With full schedules for the casts of both programs, it is more likely that actors will smaller roles will switch over rather than any of the major leads.

The Originals returns to The CW for a second season on a new night Monday, October 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
