Director Matt Hastings has been hard at work bringing episode 206 of The CW's The Originals to life on location in Atlanta, Ga. Even so, that doesn't mean there isn't time to joke around in between takes.

'The Originals' Crossover Event Has Already Completed Filming

"Me and our newest cast member! #TheOriginals #pumpkinhead #Season2," tweeted the director recently when he shared a photo of himself beside a rather sinister, elaborate skull with wide and distracting eyes, sharp fangs and roots which stretched around the chair below it. The prop was certainly a prominent piece as it stood in front of a store window.

Hastings spent last week directing scenes out in the brutally hot swamp with actress Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley). He then took the the streets of the show's "New Orleans" set, where the "new cast member" made his debut.

On Wednesday the director finished up production for the episode in rather familiar place, though he admitted that it was a sad experience to be done with filming.

"Last day of #206," he wrote on Twitter. "Ending is bittersweet with a giant crane in the City of the Dead. #TheOriginals." The accompanying photo was taken in haunting black and white, revealing Hastings as he stood near a crane in the cemetery, an iconic set for The Vampire Diaries spin-off.

The Originals returns on The CW for a second season on a new night Monday, October 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
