They've both been gushing about life as a married couple since their August 31 wedding, but Jenny McCarthy is now sharing what exactly makes her marriage and relationship with Donnie Wahlberg in general work so well.

In an interview with CBS News, McCarthy revealed that the similar backgrounds the two shared are what helped them cement their relationship with one another.

"We both come from really similar pasts-families-Irish, hardworking, lower middle class," she said. "He started supporting his family at a very young age. I did the same, We both wrote checks to pay off our parent's bills...We both have had ups and downs in our careers. We both had children. We both had a divorce. We both stayed in this business. We're both workaholics and passionate. The most important is that we have a spiritual connection. We're really involved with self-realization and self-improvement."

And though she and Wahlberg only began dating last year (announcing their engagement this past April), McCarthy says she wasn't nervous to become his wife as quickly as she did.

"I thought I was going to be more nervous than I was. But I wasn't," she said about the couple's wedding in St. Charles, Ill. 'I really kind of stayed present and just had so much gratitude. We walked down the aisle. I locked eyes with Donnie. We didn't take our eyes off of each other. We danced the night away."

Though the newlyweds, (who made their first public appearance together since their wedding at the Canon PIXMA PRO City Senses Gallery in Boston on Sept. 17), are blissfully happy in their union together, it isn't the first time either has been married. Wahlberg, 45, was married to Kim Fey from 1999-2008, with whom he has two sons, Xavier and Elijah. McCarthy was married to director John Asher from 1995-2005, with whom she had her son, Evan.
