While Dwayne Johnson is set to play the villain Black Adam in the adaptation of Shazam that is headed to join the new DC Cinematic Universe, they are still looking for the lead and title star. But could that mean a True Blood star is finally going to get his chance to be a superhero?

'22 Jump Street' Star Already On Casting List For 'Shazam'

Even though he had a small role in the original Spider-Man trilogy, one name that would make the perfect Shazam would be True Blood and Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello.

With his television series now done and not too many big projects after the next Magic Mike, it would seem like Manganiello is available and could be set to play Shazam.

Dwayne Johnson Picks DC Character To Play, But When Will The Movie Come?

With the direction of the film going for a more fun, humorous adaptation instead of the dark and gritty look that DC Comics usually look for, Manganiello would work as he has the comedic chops from roles in How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men and some comedic moments in Magic Mike to show that the actor can be funny and throw a punch.

Johnson has the same tough guy persona, but is also able to be funny and create humorous moments in his work and Manganiello would work off of the action star well. While he hasn't found that breakout role in the movies, it would allow Manganiello show his skills working off one of the biggest actors working today.

Shazam is set to open in theaters in 2017 or 2018.
