In a recent interview, Criminal Minds' show runner Erica Messer spoke about what fans can expect from the rest of season 10 and dished a little about the personal stories of the characters.

Third Episode To Feature A "Massive Plane Wreck" Spurred By Terrorism?

Speaking to TV Fanatic the producer addressed a question about if this chapter would get into the non-professional realm for characters.

Messer hinted at David Rossi's (Joe Mantegna) ex-wife making an appearance in episode 9, which was revealed earlier.

Derek Morgan and Savannah Are "Still Going Strong"

"By episode 9 you're going to meet someone in Rossi's life and I'll just leave it at that as a little tease and, you know, Joe Mantegna was best friends with Meshach Taylor so when Meshach died in July Joe said 'can we find a way to finish that story that we had started 2 or 3 years ago?' So we're doing that and it's really a heartbreaking episode," she said.

But more interestingly she seemed to suggest that they might work on getting Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) a new girlfriend on the show. Messer stated that they wanted to be considerate of the fact that they killed off Spencer's girlfriend.

"Yeah. That's always our plan. I always feel like it's like giving your children ice cream, you've got to make sure there's enough to go around or nobody can have it and we, for personal stories, we'll come up with something incredibly dramatic and then it might just be too devastating," she said. "Like a couple years ago when we killed Reid's girlfriend. We finally gave him a girlfriend and then we killed her and it was just like, 'Okay. That might have been too much. Now we're sad we did that.' So you really have to think about what that does to a character because that character is so grounded they seem real and then you need to say, 'Okay. What would that do? If Reed was my friend how would you help him out of it?' you know?"

Season 10 premiered on CBS on October 1.

Episode 2, entitled Burn, will air on October 8.
