It's sometimes part of the job, but according to Kerry Washington it's not always easy. The Scandal star has recently admitted that doing on-screen sex scenes with her co-stars can sometimes lead to some very awkward situations.

Kerry Washington Steps Out With Her Daughter Isabelle For The First Time

The actress, who plays Olivia Pope on the highly acclaimed ABC drama, told Allure Magazine in their November issue that filming sex scenes in a room full of people is the least desirable part of her job.

According to Us Weekly on Tuesday, she said, "They're hard to do. You're doing things that you're supposed to do with only certain people in your life. Because this is not your real partner in life, doing that is awkward. And then doing it in a room full of people is awkward."

Despite the fact that she and her co-star Tony Goldwyn are good friends, she also says that she is very mindful of his real-life partner, Jane Musky, whenever the two are filming.

She added, "Particularly with a show like ours, where people are so invested in the chemistry, you just learn to be careful, because people's real relationships in life are important. I so respect and admire his wife and him and their family, and he feels the same way about mine. And so you learn to be careful about how you say things."

What's more, Washington says that the "secret" to being her character Olivia Pope is not all about the clothes, but the shoes, instead.

She explained, "There's a reason why you say, 'Oh, they walk in this world in a certain way.' Shoes have a big impact. Even in rehearsals at Scandal, oftentimes I'll ask for my shoes. I'll be standing around in my sweatpants and tank top and hoodie sweatshirt with Christian Dior or Gucci shoes, because I want to be able to walk and stand like Olivia."

Scandal Season 4 airs every Thursday on ABC at 9 p.m. EST/PST.
