Can The Walking Dead get any crazier? According to star Andrew Lincoln (Rick), the answer is, of course.

With the third episode of The Walking Dead coming up this Sunday, Lincoln called Episode 3 "astonishingly brutal and uncompromising" to Details on Wednesday.

"But then the story kind of spins off," he continued, "But I would say that [episodes] nine, ten, and eleven . . . and twelve . . . actually, the whole season is pretty intense," Lincoln said laughing. "I'm trying to sort of temper it, but I can't. It moves very quickly. Lots of new locations, a heck of a lot of new characters. But it is a season where maybe two-thirds has this momentum and this drive, and then the final third is like a completely new show."

In terms of his character, Lincoln admitted that Rick has changed "so much" since the beginning of the show. "He's just as tender, just as loyal, just as much a friend as he ever was," Lincoln said about Rick. "I think the best way to describe it is that if you stand beside him, you're family, but if you stand in opposition to him, you're a problem. And he won't back down from getting rid of any problem that stands in the way of his family."

The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9 pm E.T. on AMC.
