Switched at Birth has found itself a new character to join the series played by a familiar TV star.

'Switched At Birth' Season 4 Storylines Will Be 'Juicy & Fantastic'

On Friday, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Bess Armstrong from the TV series My So-Called Life has signed onto the ABC Family drama for its fourth season. The site mentioned that it will be in a major recurring role as Daphne's "formidable" pre-med professor; she will appear in the season premiere and should be in more episodes afterwards.

Since her character is described as "formidable," this might show that some juicy drama will take place. This professor might be intimidating, but is she going to be that frightening?

One of Armstrong's most popular roles was as Patty Chase in the 90's show My So-Called Life. She's also been on several other TV shows, including True Blood, NCIS and House of Lies where she played Julianne Hotschragar.

The fourth season of Switched at Birth is expected to return in early 2015 although the Christmas special will air this December. Lea Thompson, who plays Kathryn, mentioned that the future episodes will definitely be ones to look forward to.

"We're about to start Switched at Birth season four. I guess it will go on in the spring or maybe January or February," Thompson told Smashing Interviews Magazine. "I'm going to get to direct my third episode around Christmas, which I'm really excited about. I don't really know the storylines yet, but I'm sure they will be juicy and fantastic because we left with a really great cliffhanger."
