Actress Carol Ann Susi, the voice of Howard Wolowitz's mother on The Big Bang Theory, passed away Tuesday after a brief battle with cancer. She was 62.

Although the actress never appeared on camera, her husky New York accent was a comical part of the CBS series since it premiered in 2007. Howard and his mother often bickered and each time she was heard screaming from another room.

"The Big Bang Theory family has lost a beloved member today," the show's executive producers said in a joint statement. "Unseen by viewers, the Mrs. Wolowitz character became a bit of a mystery throughout the show's eight seasons. What was not a mystery, however, was Carol Ann's immense talent and comedic timing, which were on display during each unforgettable appearance."

The actress, born in Brooklyn, moved to Los Angeles in the '70s to start her career in the entertainment business. She also starred in The King of Queens, That '70s Show, Seinfeld and Married with Children.

Several cast members also took to Twitter to remember their co-star.

Kunal Nayyar, who stars as Howard's friend Raj Koothrappali, tweeted, "My heart is broken. I will miss your smile. Your spirit is forever with us."

Mayim Bialik, aka Amy Farrah Fowler, tweeted, "yes, carol ann susi passed away. the beloved voice of mrs wolowitz and our dear friend and castmate. rough day...."

Actress Melissa Rauch, who plays Bernadette Rostenkowski, tweeted, "So grateful to have known Carol Ann Susi who brought laughter & light with her always. She'll forever be in my heart."
