No, that doesn't mean they will chow down on their own face. What it does mean, however, is that characters like Inspector Pazzi and Francis Dolarhyde will get much larger roles than in the Thomas Harris novels.

"That's what [series creator] Bryan [Fuller] does best: He finds characters that might not be that explicit in the books or the films and then he enlarges that," explained actor Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), according to Yahoo! TV. "He's already done that, to a degree with Mason Verger and his sister. We saw the aftermath in the film, but now we've already seen who is Mason and we saw his transition, which I find super interesting. I'm sure he's going to do that with other characters."

Season 3 will mash up events form Hannibal Rising and Hannibal. The premiere will pick up a year after the bloody events of "Mizumono," and Dr. Lecter will be hiding out in Italy.
